School examinations may be over and holidays around the corner, but the learning did not stop for the YDSP participants who visited the Navy Open House (NOH) at Changi Naval Base on 20 May 2010.
During the visit, the students toured the NOH grounds to see many of the Singapore Navy’s impressive weapons and warships, including the Formidable-class frigates, landing ship tanks and submarines.
They also went on board some of the vessels to take a closer look at Singapore’s sophisticated naval capabilities. In the ‘Navy Capabilities’ exhibition area, they were treated to a 3D naval landscape display that demonstrated warships conducting tactical exercises together with patrol aircraft.
“Nothing beats getting up close and personal to the weapons and systems. This visit has piqued my interest in a career in defence science and technology!” enthused Samuel Seah, a fifth-year Integrated Programme student from Anglo Chinese School (Independent).
The visit was a hit among other students, who also took the opportunity to learn more about scholarship and career opportunities in the Singapore’s defence community.
